Let's let Tom Lang, the Author of The Haiku Tao Te Ching tell you about it in his own words:#59
"The Tao Te Ching is a favorite book of mine. I am retired, volunteering as a Foster Grandparent. I was born in England but came to the U.S. as a teenager. I have pursued new-age, metaphysical studies and Eastern religion all my life (my grandmother was a member of her local spiritualist church and, as a child, I attended frequently).
Just for fun, I started interpreting the chapters into Haiku style verses, actually ending up with a number of versions of each chapter. My wife suggested I compile them into a book, so I selected what I considered the best of each verse and did so. Here are a couple of examples from the book."
Naught surpasses thrift.
Return to the simple life.
There's nothing better.
Mother of all things,
the Tao moves by returning
in endless cycles.
The Haiku Tao Te Ching: Wisdom of the Tao for People in a Hurry is subtle and very empowering at the same time! By reducing each chapter of the Tao Te Ching to a single Haiku verse, Tom Lang was able to create a collection of inspiring nuggets of Tao wisdom. Because of this, many readers find that by placing this little book on their bedside table they can open it in the morning to find an uplifting thought to begin their day. This book has also become popular as a thoughtful and illuminating gift for any occasion. Author: Tom F. Lang
Tom researched several translations in his efforts to bring The Tao Te Ching to life in Haiku and from our perspective at Highest Light House he has done a superb job. We highly recommend it!
